Curriculum is the heart of education. Therefore, the current curriculum 2013 should give greater
attention to cultural and national character education curriculum than ever before. Education is the
spearhead of determining a person's success in life. Education can make people civilized. Local
culture-based education is very important in forming the character of a nation that does not
leave the current modernization and globalization, so as to compete in a global world without
leaving the local cultural values and as an affirmation of identity.
Learning Indonesian language contained within the learning literature, is considered not
able to provide students in critical thinking ability. This is due to that literature is believed to be
used as one means to plant, cultivate, foster, and preserve the values that are believed to be good
and valuable by society. Through the study of literature as well, learners are invited to see,
enjoy, and appreciate literature. Though the actual learning literature can also be used as a tool
to train the social sensitivity of students, about how exactly the reality of what happened. Thus
the study of literature can serve as the stimulus of an effort to give the learners a critical
awareness. Through a critical literature students are invited to reflect on things that actually
happened. And it helps students in understanding the problem, outlining the problem, thus
providing supplies to the students to think critically.
