The objectives of the research were to know the students’ ability in writing
memo text and to find out the problems faced by the Tenth Graders of SMK Dwija
Praja Pekalongan in the Academic Year of 2012/2013 in writing memo texts.

The research used a descriptive qualitative research design to find out the
description of the students’ ability in writing memo texts. The test was used as the
research instrument. The writer also gave questionnaire.

The population of this research is the Tenth Graders of SMK Dwija Praja
Pekalongan in the Academic Year of 2012/2013. The total number of population
was 258 students and the writer took the sample by using a purposive sampling
technique. 27 Students of class X TKR 1 were chosen as the sample.

The result of this study in writing memo texts of the Tenth Graders of
SMK Dwija Praja Pekalongan in the Academic Year of 2012/2013 are: there are 1
student who has very good criterion, 9 students who have good criterion, 9
students who have fair criterion, 7 students who have bad criterion, 1 students
who have very bad criterion from this result, it does not mean that the students
have no difficulties in writing memo texts. They got difficulty in recognizing the
meaning, grammar and vocabulary.

To improve the quality of students in writing memo text, the teacher must
give many vocabularies in teaching process. and make a cheerful atmosphere in
writing.
