This final project was about The Effectiveness of Using Video to Teach Descriptive Text Writing (The Experimental Study of the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Muhammadiyah Pekalongan in the Academic Year of 2012/2013). The objective of the study was to find out the effectiveness of using video to teach the tenth grade students in writing descriptive text in SMK Muhammadiyah Pekalongan in the academic year of 2012/2013.
The population of this study was the whole of the tenth graders. The numbers of the student were 306 students that consist of nine classes. The technique sampling of the research was cluster randomly from population, two Classes was taken as sample. The first sample was Teknik Perbaikan Bodi Otomotif 2, or 1Pbo2 which consists of 26 students. The second sample was Teknik Perangkat Lunak 2, or 1Rpl 2 which consists of 26 students. So, the total numbers of sample in this study were 52 students. This research used an experimental research as research design to find out the effectiveness of using video as media to teach in writing descriptive text was effective or not. A test was used as the research instrument. It was essay test or close test. The total numbers of the test were four items. This study used experimental design where the subject was divided into two groups (experimental and control), they were 1Rpl2 as the control group that the students taught by using pictures or without treatment and 1Pbo2 as the experimental group that the students taught by using video as treatment.
In this study, the writer concluded that the effectiveness of using video as media to teach descriptive text writing of the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah Pekalongan in the academic year of 2012/2013 was effective because the students taught by using video. They were more active than the students taught by using pictures. While the writer taught in the experimental class, many students enthusiastically learn English especially in writing descriptive text of describing people. It was different from, the students in the control class, they got bored, be lazy and not interested to learn English.
The writer offers several suggestions for the students, the teacher and also the other researcher. First, for the students, they should have high motivation in learning writing to improve their English writing ability, because it is the most difficult skill in learning language. Second, for the teacher, the teacher should provide and use media in teaching writing appropriately and the teacher should have a good way to make students to be more interested. Third, for the researcher, they must prepare and observe the problem deeply to get the maximal result.
