According to National Narcotics Agency, number of drugs user in 1998 is 1.3
million people and in 2001 increased to 4 million people in 2001. In 3 years
(2005-2009) increased up to 300%. From that amount, 80-90% user are
productive age in 15-20 years old. Drugs abused is not just in addictive
substances, but has involved to Over the Counter (OTC) category. OTC drugs
are medicines that can be bought without prescription. Dextrometorphan (DMP) is
antitusive “over the counter” (OTC). Dextro abused is done by taking it in a large
quantities and not according to the rules and consumed in combination. The
purpose of this study is to explore in depth about Dextro abused among
adolescents in Landungsari Kecamatan Pekalongan Timur Kota Pekalongan.
This research is qualitative research to study about phenomena (phenomenology).
Design in this study is a exploratory research.
Result of this study, Dextro abused that done by 5 informants do to relieve stress
due to family problems cause of broken home, getting a sense of comfort, a sense
of boredom due to being unemployed, and invitation from friend. The role of
friend who do Dextro abused is very influential in abuse of Dextro. Health effects
of Dextro abused are red in eyes, walking disorder, liver damage, and reduced of
organ, neuron, and auditory functions. Social effect of Dextro abused is negative
view of society. Barrier in this study is peoples are close with subject in social
environment.
Expected there are rehabilitation to user as curative effort and there be attention
and guidance from parents, teachers, and government as prevention efforts.
