Speed Reading Skills of Students Class VIII at Junior High School 16 E
Pekalongan still low. This is due to the students and teachers considered difficult
to master speed reading and taught. The use of media and learning techniques are
less interesting and boring. In addition, teachers do not have enough time to guide
learners in mastering speed reading comprehension. Other factors that affect
students' low reading speed is low student interest in learning to read faster so that
learners have trouble finding an idea, the idea quickly in reading.
The problem in this research is how the increase reading skills rapidly
eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 16 E Pekalongan after participating in
learning by using PQRST? The purpose of this study was mendiskripsi rapid
increase students' reading skills using the PQRST the eighth grade students of
SMP Negeri 16 E Pekalongan. Theoretical benefits of this research is the
development of knowledge about the repertoire Adding a quick read. In addition,
developed the theory of learning to read faster 250 KPM. While the practical
benefits is that it can be used as a reference in solving problems related to
teachers' efforts to improve their reading speed.
The research design cycle model Kemmis and MC. Targart classroom
action research was carried out through a process of planning, action, observation
or observation, and reflection. The subjects were Learners class VIII E SMP
Negeri 16 Pekalongan totaling 34 students. The variables of this study there are
two variables that increase reading skills rapidly and PQRST method. The data
collection technique using testing techniques, non-test observations, interviews.
Data analysis in this study uses quantitative and qualitative analysis, data analysis
represented a moment of reflection round action research, the researchers will
have to reflect authentic insights that will help in interpreting the data. Just as a
support to know how much faster students' reading skills.
Based on the results of the first cycle of the action can be seen values
increase in the average read speed of 142 kpm with 74,70% comprehension, 31 or
91,17% of students achieved reading speeds above 200 KPM, 24 or 70,58%
Students reaching an understanding on over 70%, and the results of the action in
the second cycle an average read speed of 170 kpm with 85,00% comprehension
skills, 32 students or 94,11% to reach speeds above 200 KPM, 30 students or
88,23% to reach an understanding above 70%, the ability to read quickly eighth

grade students of SMP Negeri 16 E Pekalongan using PQRST method to increase
competence and in accordance with the standards set by the school. Establishment
format (form) of learning by using PQRST method of learning to read quickly so
as to improve students' reading skills rapidly in subjects Indonesian language and
literature at Junior High School 16 Pekalongan. This is seen in the results of the
action cycle I to cycle II has increased.
