It is necessary to develop the technology needed to solve the problems of the Indonesian
increasing population, the level of rice consumption, the conversion of land used, and sea
absorbance, especially in Pekalongan. One of those technologies used is the use of palerang (a
rice and catfish development on field) by a viticulture way. This study is aimed to optimize the use
of farmer’s field to develop rice and catfish to safe the food. This study has been done in a Tani
Jaya farmer group cluster, Degayu village, North Pekalongan, started from May to October 2012.
The study steps consist of: the activity agreement, deciding the location of the study, socialization
and dissemination, procurement of materials and equipment, technology implementation practices,
harvest and post-harvest. The success indicators involve: 1) the rice and catfish can be developed
well, 2) produce grain from rice cultivation, 3) produce catfish from its cultivation, 4) palerang
transformation to the farmers, 5) the establishment of palerang technology model in farmers’
fields, 6) involved at least 10 farmers, 7) positive responses from farmers in farmers group cluster.
The result of the research shows that the rice and catfish can develop and improve so well. The
weight of the grain achieve 33.45 gram per hill and the weight of catfish is 45 kg. Besides, there is
an increasing of farmer participation, from the planning, planting, cultivating, harvesting and post
harvesting, so that the dissemination and transformation of the technology runs as effective as
possible and the number of farmers involved in the farmers group cluster is increasing more than
the target hoped.
